NEWS RELEASE FOR HIGHWAY PROJECT INFORMATION
8th Street & East Grand Avenue Intersection Modification
The 8th Street and East Grand Avenue intersection has a history of crashes. The existing pavement and pedestrian facilities are showing signs of deterioration and do not meet current design standards.
Crews will reconstruct the intersection with a new lane configuration and install new traffic signals to improve safety. Water main and sanitary sewer will be upgraded. Pedestrian facilities and pavement markings will also be upgraded to improve safety.
The intersection of 8th Street South and East Grand Avenue will be closed for the duration of the project. Roadway closures will begin at Peach Street (N/B Traffic), 9th Street (W/B Traffic), Oak St. (S/B Traffic) and 7th Street (E/B Traffic). A marked detour route will be provided. Pedestrian access to the parcels adjacent to construction will be maintained. Through pedestrian traffic (crossing 8th Street South and E. Grand Avenue) will be detoured. A pedestrian detour will be provided.
A detailed detour route will be marked for 8th Street S. Traffic will be detoured off 8th Street S utilizing Chestnut Street, Lincoln Street, Jackson Street, Market Street, and Baker Street.
Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 22.
The project is scheduled for completion September 2017.
