Two Arrested on Traffic Stop for Speeding

Henry County – Two Indianapolis men were arrested on weapons and drug charges yesterday afternoon after the vehicle they were driving was stopped for speeding on I-70 in Henry County. Trooper Earnest Paige was sitting on I-70 at the 128 mile marker about 5:30 p.m. last evening, when he clocked an east bound BMW at 85 M.P.H. in the 70 M.P.H. zone.

When Paige got the BMW stopped at the 131 mile marker and made contact with the driver, Garrett Wilson, age 20, and his passenger Devonte Demarco Latrale Kennedy, age 24, he could smell the odor of raw marijuana in the vehicle.  Trooper Mark Hanna and Henry County Deputy Derek Hall were nearby and came to assist Paige.

During a search of the vehicle officers found two loaded handguns, pills believed to by Hydrocodone and alprazolam (Xanax,) and just over 21 grams of suspected marijuana along with plastic bags and digital scales. The driver Garrett Wilson was charged with Possession of a Handgun without a License, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Dealing Marijuana, all misdemeanor charges.

The passenger, Devonte Demarco Latrale Kennedy, was lodged for Possession of a Handgun without a License, With a Prior Conviction, Level 5 Felony and Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana, both misdemeanor charges.  Both men were lodged in the Henry County Jail.

From May 12th through June 4th there will be extra troopers on Hoosier roadways participating in the federally funded “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Troopers will be looking for aggressive and impaired drivers, and those that aren’t “buckled up.” Seatbelts reduce your risk of injury in a crash by up to 50%. Before leaving make sure everyone in your vehicle is buckled up.

All Suspects Are Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law
