On Monday, May 15, 2017, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter announced that Trooper Bryce Harris, a Columbus, Indiana resident would be promoted to sergeant to serve as a District Squad Leader with the Indiana State Police, Versailles District.
Sgt. Harris is a 1995 graduate of Franklin Community High School in Johnson County, Indiana. He attended Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus from 1995 to 1999. He attended and graduated from the 65th Indiana State Police Academy in April 2006. After graduation, Sgt. Harris was assigned to the Seymour District of the Indiana State Police until its closing in 2010. He then was assigned to the Versailles District where he patrolled Jackson and Bartholomew Counties until his promotion.
As a trooper, Sgt. Harris has been a member of the department’s Clandestine Laboratory Team, Tactical Intervention Platoon, and Honor Guard. He was additionally trained and certified to be a field training officer and a firearms instructor. Sgt. Harris was promoted after completing the rigorous Indiana State Police promotional process which included performance evaluations, written testing, oral interview, and review by the Indiana State Police Superintendent.
Sgt. Harris’ new responsibilities include supervising a squad of troopers who patrol Zone 1 of the Versailles District which includes Jackson and Bartholomew Counties. Sgt. Harris is filling the vacancy made when Lt. Paul Adams was promoted to the District Commander of the Versailles Post.
Lt. Adams recently stated, “Sgt. Harris has been an extremely hardworking trooper throughout his career and is very deserving of this promotion. He truly represents the values of the Indiana State Police.”
Sgt. Harris resides in Columbus, Indiana with his wife, Staci, and two children.
