Traffic Stop Nets Two on Alcohol and Drug Charges

Daviess County:  An early morning traffic stop resulted in two Washington, Indiana men behind bars on numerous drug and alcohol charges.

At 3:17 A.M. Wednesday morning, Trooper Mitch Wier was patrolling County Road 200 East near National Highway when he observed the driver in front of him fail to use his turn signal when turning onto National Hwy.  Trooper Wier pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 29 year old Preston Matteson.  In speaking with Matteson and his passenger, 26 year old Tyler Bagley, Wier found that neither had an identification card with them.  While checking their information, Wier learned that Bagley was wanted through Pike County on multiple charges.

Daviess County Deputy Luke Harmon and his K9 partner Focus assisted Wier by conducting an open air search around Matteson’s car.  Focus positively indicated that there could be narcotics in the vehicle, allowing officers to search the car.  During the search, officers found a glass smoking pipe with residue that field tested positive as methamphetamine.  Officers later learned that the pipe belonged to Bagley.

Wier continued his investigation and found that Matteson had operated the vehicle under the influence of marijuana, methamphetamine, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, and buprenorphine.  Wier also found a Lortab tablet in Matteson’s pocket.

Matteson and Bagley were both placed into custody and transported to the Daviess County Security Center without incident.
