Media Release - Discharge a Firearm at an Inhabited Dwelling
On May 17, 2017, at approximately 11:59 PM, Officers responded to the report of a disorderly male yelling and running in the street near the 800 block of Alyssum. The responding Officers arrived and were initially unable to locate the male subject.
Shortly after the Officers cleared the call, several residents in the area called back reporting possible gunshots heard. When Officers returned and as they were approaching a residence in the 800 block of Alyssum, several more shots were heard. Officers quickly isolated the house in question and called for assistance from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol. Once enough Officers were on scene to secure the area, they evacuated several families from neighboring homes and requested the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team.
The San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team arrived, successfully contacted the suspect and had him exit his house. Upon exiting his house, the suspect, who was later identified as Robert Eugene Torres, was uncooperative in following Officer commands and less lethal rounds were deployed. With assistance from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, S/TORRES was taken into custody. He was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries, and will be booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of 246(c) - PC Discharge a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, 452 PC - Arson, 594 PC - Felony Vandalism, and 246.3 PC - Willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner.
