UPDATE: La Verne Heights Elementary and Oak Mesa Elementary re-open
UPDATE: La Verne Heights Elementary and Oak Mesa Elementary re-open 
The Department of Fish and Wildlife along with La Verne Police officers conducted an extensive search and were unable to locate the bear in the community. They also received assistance from local media outlets who were flying overhead who also saw no signs of the bear in the area. Oak Mesa Elementary and La Verne Heights Elementary schools are no longer on lockdown. Both departments will continue to monitor the schools and the surrounding area in case the bear returns.
