Scam/Fraud Alert – IMMEDIATE RELEASE

An individual identifying himself as James Marshall, and stating he is a Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff, is calling citizens and stating the citizen has an arrest warrant from Buchanan County.

James Marshall gives the citizen a fictitious judge, courtroom, and court date – then wants the citizen to provide financial information so a voucher can be issued so the citizen receiving the call is not arrested. There are also variations on what James Marshall is telling our citizens.

This is a SCAM – DO NOT give any personal or financial information to James Marshall including; date of birth, social security number, credit card number, debit card number, security code on you cards, or banking account numbers or name of your bank.

James Marshal is NOT a deputy sheriff – the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office also does not solicit financial information for arrest warrants over the telephone.

If you are unsure that someone is call from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, you should contact the Sheriff’s Office yourself to verify it is a legitimate call.
