Two homes burglarized during the daytime, residents urged to lock/alarm their homes report suspicious activity
Cedar Grove Police are currently investigating two residential burglaries that occurred on Friday, May 19th, 2017. One on Lynwood Road the other on nearby Yorkshire Drive. Police initially responded to the Lynwood Rd address at 11:51 a.m. on a report of a burglary in progress. Entry had been forced through a rear window. The actor is described as a black male, in his mid, to late 40's wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. He had short hair, a heavier build, and looked to be about average height. He was seen fleeing from the residence carrying a white pillow case. The suspect then ran to what looked like a blue Honda SUV and threw the pillow case into the open hatch in the rear of the vehicle. The suspect then got into the driver seat and fled in the direction of Ridge Road. Later that evening at 11:12 p.m. returning residents discovered the second burglary. Entry had been forced through the front door. Both homes were ransacked, jewelry and cash were taken. The detective bureau processed the scene for physical evidence and is now conducting a follow-up investigation. Directed patrols will be conducted.
In response to these burglaries, police are urging residents to lock and alarm their homes when unattended. Be vigilant and to report all suspicious activity as it occurs. Please be aware that many burglaries, like these are linked to suspicious vehicles remaining in or casing neighborhoods for potential target homes. Additionally, burglars will often ring doorbells or peer into these homes to establish if anyone is home before breaking in. Please immediately report any instances of unknown persons ringing yours or a neighbor’s doorbell, suspicious cars, or individuals in your neighborhood or on your neighbor's property. The police telephone number is 973-239-4100 or 9-1-1 if a crime is in progress.
