Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, announced the indictment of Steven Newman, age 50, of Phillipsburg, NJ. On May 11, 2017, Mr. Newman was indicted by a Hunterdon County Grand Jury for 1st degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, 2nd degree Sexual Assault, 2nd degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and 4th degree Lewdness.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “On March 17, 2017, Mr. Newman was arrested by detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office Special Victims Unit and the Flemington Borough Police Department. If found guilty at trial, Mr. Newman could be exposed to 10-20 years in a state prison for the 1st degree charge.”
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
