Downtown Sprint Retail Store Burglarized
 
SANTA BARBARA, CA – 05/26/2017
 
 
On 05/25/2017 at approximately 1122 PM, a Burglary in progress was reported to the Santa Barbara Police Department by several witnesses.  The Burglary occurred at the Sprint cellular phone store in the 1000 block of State St.  Officers were quickly dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter to find the witnesses standing by.   It was reported the witnesses were walking on State St when they heard an audible alarm sounding.  Upon reaching the front of the Sprint store they observed glass on the ground and the front door broken out. To their surprise a male subject was still inside the store placing items into a bag.  He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a mask.  When the suspect inside realized there were witnesses outside watching him, he quickly exited the business and ran southbound on State St taking the bag with him.   
 
Video images collected from within the store show the unidentified male suspect use some type of slingshot to break out the glass then make entry into the store.  Once inside, the suspect proceeds to cut the security cables on several of the display phones and other related merchandise and place them into a bag.  The suspect is a possibly a white or light skinned Hispanic male wearing a black hat, blue Nike shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and black and grey gloves.  See the attached  still photo of the suspect for more detail. 
 
The manager of the store arrived and spoke with Officers.  He provided the video footage of the incident, a list of stolen items and an estimated total dollar amount for the loss (roughly $7500.) 
 
At this time the Santa Barbara Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the male suspect.  If anyone has any information regarding the crime or the suspect’s identity please contact Detective Sergeant John Ingram at (805) 897-2330.
