Narrative:
On May 24th 2017, Thousand Oaks Police investigators concluded a vehicle burglary investigation by arresting two suspects for multiple counts of 459 PC / Burglary, 530.5 (a) PC/ Identity theft and 273 a(a) PC / Child endangerment.

In early April 2017, there was a series of vehicle burglaries and vehicle thefts reported in the City of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated area of Oak Park. The suspects took numerous items of property including cash and credit cards Shortly after the burglaries occurred, the suspects used the stolen credit cards to make several hundred dollars’ worth of fraudulent purchases. During the course of the investigation, Thousand Oaks Police investigators were able to identify one of the suspects as Mariah Maya-Long of Port Hueneme.

On May 24th 2017, Thousand Oaks Police investigators and the Thousand Oaks Police Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at Long’s residence, located in the 600 block of Halyard Street in Port Hueneme. During the service of the search warrant, Long was detained along with Tabitha Bernhardt and Rafael Lopez. Bernhardt was also caring for her two-year-old child. While searching the residence, investigators located stolen property linking Bernhardt and Long to more than ten Thousand Oaks, Oak Park and Los Angeles County vehicle burglaries. Detectives also found 2 ounces of methamphetamine and other items that indicated the narcotics were possessed for sale. Investigators initiated a “Drug Endangered Child” (DEC) investigation and called Ventura County Child Protective Services to the residence.

As a result of this investigation, Mariah Maya-Long was arrested for numerous counts of conspiracy to commit a crime, vehicle burglary, grand theft and identity theft. Bernhardt, was arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime, multiple counts of vehicle burglary, grand theft, identity theft, three counts of child endangerment, possession of controlled substance for sale and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Child Protective Services took her two-year-old child into protective custody. Lopez, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. All three subjects were booked at the Ventura County jail. Long’s and Bernhardt’s bail was set at $250,000 pending trial.
