WALMART ROBBERY ENDS WITH PURSUIT AND K9 APPREHENSION

On Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at approximately 3:37 am, Officers from the Anderson Police Department responded to Walmart for a report of a robbery in which a Walmart employee was hit by a vehicle in the parking lot when the suspects fled the scene.

As Officers were responding, they spotted the suspect vehicle, a 2006 silver Chevrolet Malibu in the area. As the Officers drove towards the suspect vehicle, the driver, later identified as a 15 year old female juvenile, quickly drove away with a 15 year old male juvenile accomplice in the passenger seat. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop, however a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The vehicle traveled northbound on Highway 273 from Factory Outlets Drive reaching speeds of approximately 90 MPH. Deputy’s from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and Officer’s from the Redding Police Department responded to assist and several spike strips were deployed. The vehicle turned eastbound onto South Bonnyview Drive and eventually attempted to negotiate a left turn onto Churn Creek Road. During the turn, the driver lost control of the vehicle, collided with the concrete center divider and became disabled.

The female driver exited the vehicle and refused Officer’s orders to comply as she ran away. APD K9 Chance was deployed, ran the suspect down, and apprehended her. The juvenile was later transported to Juvenile Hall after a medical clearance and will face charges of robbery, felony pursuit, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and vehicle theft. It was later determined the female suspect had stolen the vehicle from her mother. The 15 year old male juvenile suspect was also arrested for resisting arrest charges and booked in Juvenile Hall.

The Anderson Police Department would like to thank the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Redding Police Department for their assistance.
