DATE/TIME: May 27, 2017 / 12:09 a.m.
INCIDENT: GTA Recovery / Pursuit
LOCATION: Barstow Road and Mountain View Road, Barstow CA
SUSPECT(S): Edward Marquez, 19 years from Barstow, CA
SUMMARY: On May 27, 2017, at about midnight, San Bernardino County Sheriffs Barstow Deputy David Johnson observed a male riding an off-road quad on Barstow Road with no lights and no helmet. Barstow Road is a high traffic thoroughfare and the rider showed no regard for the safety of other vehicles on the roadway. Johnson feared the rider would be injured, or would injure someone else, so he initiated a traffic stop. The rider, 19 year old Edward Marquez, failed to yield to Johnson’s activated lights and siren, and drove into the residential neighborhood adjacent to the Barstow Sheriff station. A pursuit ensued and other Barstow Station deputies responded to assist. At one point, Marquez turned into a dead end and was trapped. He fled on foot from the quad, but was quickly apprehended without incident.
Deputies learned the quad had just been stolen. Marquez was subsequently charged with Vehicle Theft and Failure to Yield to a police vehicle. He was booked at the Barstow Jail with $110,000 bail.
