Prescribed fire planned for tomorrow, Thursday June 1, near Stampede Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest.
The Forest Service, Truckee Ranger District, is planning to burn 100 acres of understory vegetation near Stampede Reservoir tomorrow, Thursday June 1. Smoke may be visable along 89 North, I80, Russel Valley and Boca/Stampede Reservoir.
The prescribed fire will only take place if weather, fuel conditions and smoke dispersal remains favorable. We will be monitoring weather and fuel conditions throughout the day to ensure we are "in prescription".
There are only a handful of days when weather, smoke dispersion and fuel conditions are favorable for prescribed fire so we take advantage of those days; it's a very small window of opportunity. I have attached a short read on the benefits of prescribed fire. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to call. Thank you.
