A fourth suspect is arrested the 2012 shooting death of 16-year-old Ashley Caldera
DATE/TIME: May 26, 2012
INCIDENT: Cold Case/Murder Investigation - Arrest
LOCATION: Northgate Park, City of Fontana
SUSPECT: Angel Delgado, 22 years old, residing in Mexicali
VICTIM: Ashley Caldera, 16 years old (at the time of death), Fontana
SUMMARY:
On May 26, 2012, Ashley Caldera was celebrating her 16th birthday with friends at Northgate Park in the City of Fontana. During the party, four suspects walked up to a group of juveniles and an argument ensued. One of the suspects asked the group of juveniles “where are you from” and then opened fire with a handgun. Caldera was shot in the head and ultimately died at the scene. The four suspects were later identified and arrested at separate times. One of the suspects, Angel Delgado, a juvenile, was released after being interviewed, but later found to be involved in the shooting. Delgado fled the country to a family’s residence in Mexico, while the three other suspects were convicted and sentenced.
Delgado was on the run for over two years, when WeTiP received a lead in January 2014 that he was staying with extended family in Mexico. An investigation was done but no further leads on the case were developed and the case went cold. In April 2017, new leads on the case led detectives back to Mexico. Over the next couple of months, surveillance was conducted with the cooperation of Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, US Marshal’s San Diego Fugitive Task Force and the Baja State Police Policia Estatal Preventive (PEP).
On Wednesday, June 7, 2017 Delgado was seen leaving the residence in Mexicali and was arrested by PEP without incident. Delgado was transported back to the U.S. and was booked into West Valley Detention Center on Murder charges for the shooting of Ashley Caldera.
Delgado is being held on $5,000,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday, June 9, 2017 in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court.
