On Thursday, June 8, 2017 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Hope Mills Police Officers observed a 2003 Cadillac traveling on Cumberland Road with no tail lights. The Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and activated their blue light and siren. Initially, it appeared that the vehicle was slowing down to pull over, but then as the vehicle turned onto Bingham Drive, it sped away in an attempt to elude the Officers. As H.M.P.D. Officers pursued the vehicle, they observed the occupants throwing items from the vehicle. The pursuit ended on the 1600 block of Tysor Drive , off of Bailey Lake Road when the driver of the Cadillac stopped the vehicle and the occupants ran from the vehicle. The pursuing Officers apprehended one suspect, later identified as Paul Sumio Bissontz, W/M, 47, of the 1200 block of Kienast Drive Fayetteville NC. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Christopher Lee Hunter,B/M, 28, who resides in the 1300 block of Chilton Drive, Fayetteville NC, was not apprehended and remains at large. H.M.P.D. Officers were assisted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office during the pursuit that went Approximately 2.9 miles, and reached speeds of approximately 75mph.

Investigating Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, and two plastic bags containing narcotics that the suspects threw from the vehicle during the pursuit. Officers also recovered Narcotics from the vehicle.

Paul Sumio Bissontz was transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he was held on a 15000.00 bond for the following charges:

1 count of PWISD Cocaine
1 count of Felony Conspiracy
1 count of Possession of Heroin

Christer Lee Hunter is still at large and warrants have been issued for his arrest on the following charges:

1 Count : PWISD Cocaine
1 Count: Possession of Heroin
1 Count: Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest
4 Counts: Felony Conspiracy
