***FLAG DROP OFF BOX PRESS RELEASE***
On National Flag Day which is this Wednesday the 14th of June at 12:00 PM, the Red Oak Police Department will be joined by local city officials, members of our community and members of the Sons of the American Legion Chris Kyle Squadron #388 in the Red Oak Police Department lobby. The Red Oak Police Department will be receiving and installing a retired flag receptacle within the lobby of the Red Oak Police Department. This receptacle will provide the citizens of Red Oak with a location to properly dispose of their worn and tattered American flags. This service was created after Chief Garland Wolf was approached by members of the community requesting a location where American Flags could be dropped off to be properly retired. Chief Wolf created a plan and tasked Red Oak Police Department Citizens on Patrol Representative Robert Sonnier with the project. Mr. Sonnier also serves as the Post Adjutant for the Sons of the American Legion Chris Kyle Squadron #388 out of Midlothian, Texas which is commanded by Commander Gene McAda. The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 and places high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship. You can learn more about the Sons of the American Legion at https://www.legion.org. Mr. Sonnier and the Sons of the American Legion brought this project to fruition with the assistance of EmbroidMe (https://embroidme.com) of Waxahachie which created the graphic artwork and All Sports Trophies (http://www.allsports-trophies.com/) of Waxahachie which completed the laser engraving of the receptacle. We sincerely appreciate the service of both of these community supporters which donated their service which was an integral part of the success of this project. This American flag disposal receptacle will provide Red Oak citizens with a location to dispose of their American flags and honor our veterans of this great country and our community. From there, the flags will be collected and disposed of properly through a quarterly flag retirement ceremony at the local Sons of the American Legion.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend the event to further honor all Veterans and promote the availability of this service to the community.
