Abelarado Reyes Jaramillo of Barstow is arrested after deliberately hitting and killing a man with his car

SUSPECT: Abelarado Reyes Jaramillo, 50 years old, resident of Barstow
VICTIM: Larry Tortes, 35 years old, resident of Barstow
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 9:52 p.m. CHP officers responded to the location for reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. Officers quickly determined this was an assault with a vehicle and summoned deputies from the Barstow Station to conduct the investigation.
The suspect fled from the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. The victim was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment and on June 16, 2017 at 3:19 a.m. the victim was pronounced deceased.
Homicide Detectives were notified and began an investigation.
Detectives determined there was an argument, that escalated to a fight between Jaramillo and Tortes. Detectives believe Jaramillo deliberately hit Tortes with his vehicle and then left the area.
On June 16, 2017, the Specialized Enforcement Detail located Jaramillo in the Barstow area and took him into custody without incident.
