UPDATE 6/20/17 10:55PM - Teton County Sheriff's Office advises that people in the area of the Gun Range on S Highway 89 between the Trash Transfer Station and Game Creek may hear a large controlled explosion in the next 5 minutes.

Earlier today while working in the area, highway crews found an old buried box of explosives. Bomb squads are working to render those explosives safe, which is the reason for the explosion and the road closures.  Once this controlled explosion is completed, the highway will reopen to normal traffic flow shortly afterwards.

Teton County Sheriff's Office thanks the public for their patience in this matter.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE 6/20/17 10:20pm - Per Teton County Sheriff's Office, travelers of South Highway 89 can expect temporary closures between Game Creek Rd and the Trash Transfer station of 20 to 30 minutes as bomb squads work to remove explosives from the area tonight (6/20/17).  Teams are working as quickly and as safely as they can to reopen the road as soon as the area is rendered safe.  There is no immediate danger to the public due to this situation, and no action is required by the public.

Due to the late nature of the operation and since traffic is being allowed to periodically flow through the area, a Nixle will NOT be sent when the highway returns to normal operations.
