Reported Petty Theft Leads Police to Unreported Stolen Vehicle

On Sunday, June 25th 2017 at about 12:47 P.M., a local shoe store in Anderson contacted police regarding four adults who were shoplifting from the business. To the businesses credit, good initial information was provided including complete suspect descriptions and a vehicle description. Anderson Police responded to the location and quickly located the responsible subjects.

Anderson Police contacted 24 year old, Jaxon Bryant of Redding, 28 year old, Sheryl Jean McKee of Redding, 22 year old, Joseph Chapman-James of Cottonwood and 25 year old, Lorin Ashley Leonard of Redding as the involved parties. McKee was detained after she was found to possess several pairs of stolen shoes from the business. Chapman-James and Leonard were also detained after being identified by the business as having shoplifted items from the store. Bryant was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen motor vehicle after officer’s located stolen merchandise inside an unreported stolen utility vehicle.

A phone call to the owner of the vehicle by dispatchers helped with the discovery of the stolen status of the vehicle. Involved witnesses placed Bryant as the driver of the vehicle and he was found to possess items on his person that had come from the vehicle. Bryant was booked into the Shasta County Jail for possessing a stolen motor vehicle. McKee, Chapman-James and Leonard were released from the scene following the investigation but charges will be filed against them with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office.

Bryant has a prior arrest for possessing a stolen vehicle and Chapman-James is currently on Post Release Community Service (PRCS). All of the stolen property was recovered by police and returned to the business. Police also met with the victim owner of the utility vehicle and reunited the owner with their vehicle.
