Fireworks Regulations - City of Muskegon
The Muskegon Public Safety Office would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about regulations regarding the purchase and use of fireworks within the City of Muskegon.
1. Consumer fireworks may only be ignited, discharged or used in the City of Muskegon only on the day proceeding, the day of, or the day after a national holiday, except between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. when it is prohibited entirely. This means that no fireworks may be set off between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. at all.
2. Make sure that you are only using Consumer grade fireworks as defined by State of Michigan law.
3. Fireworks may not be discharged from any public property (i.e. public streets, parks, sidewalks, terraces, etc.... Fireworks may also not be discharged from any private property not owned by the person discharging the fireworks without specific permission from the property owner. This includes vacant lots, business parking lots etc.... This means that you may only discharge fireworks from your own privately owned property unless you have specific permission and in no case can you discharge from public property.
4. Fireworks may not be purchased by minors and there MUST be an adult supervising their use. It is also illegal to use them when alcoholic beverages have been or are being consumed during the fireworks display.
