It's Hot! HWP and Canyon Park are CLOSED and Cooling Centers are OPEN.
An Excessive Heat Watch will be in effect from Friday, 9 a.m. to Saturday, 9 p.m.
There will be dangerous heat for the Los Angeles County areas resulting in temperatures reaching triple digits across most valleys and lower mountain elevations. Highs will range from 104 to 106 degrees and there will be only modest relief at night.
With elevated temperatures comes elevated fire danger and heat-related illnesses – both of which can occur suddenly. During the heat, please take the following precautions:
• Check on older family, friends, and neighbors who may need help responding to the heat
• Reduce vigorous outdoor activities until the coolest time of the day
• Do not leave electronic valuables or pets in the car (even if it’s just for a brief period of time)
• Drink plenty of water
The City of Monrovia has a designated cooling center located at the
Monrovia Community Center
119 West Palm Avenue
(626) 256-8246
Cooling Center hours of operation are:
• July 7, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
• July 8, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Due to prolonged elevated temperature and an issuance of a fire weather watch, Canyon Park and the Hillside Wilderness Preserve will be closed Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8. The closure may be extended if weather conditions do not improve.
Additionally, through this period, you may see an increased presence of the Fire Department in the foothill neighborhoods as we increase patrol.
