Man arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on 93 year-old -man at Mayberry Park #LASD
On July 5, 2017, an Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Elder Abuse, and Criminal Threats occurred at Mayberry Park, 13201 Meyer Road, Whittier, CA 90605. The 93 year-old male victim observed two male adults arguing in the park and attempted to defuse the conflict. The suspect became aggressive and repeatedly pushed the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect stood over the victim while holding a knife, threatening to harm him if he did not stop interfering. The suspect fled the scene, promising to return with friends.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect was detained by Sheriff Parks Bureau deputies and arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Elder Abuse, and Criminal Threats. The suspect was identified as Mario Luiz Sanchez, a male Hispanic, 21-year-old, Whittier, California resident.
Suspect Sanchez was transported to Century Regional Detention Facility where he is being held in lieu of a $75,000 bail.
The victim sought treatment at a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
