Chula Vista Police seeking two robbery suspects from 1450 Eastlake Parkway. Video available for media at CVPD
On Friday, June 2nd, 2017, at around 11 PM, the victim, a 21 year old man, and his friends were driving through the Otay Ranch Mall in Chula Vista. They drove by a group of pedestrians who they later described as being Black or Samoan men. Although they were unknown to the victim, the group of pedestrians made comments to the victim as he drove by. The victim believed the comments to be derogatory and racially motivated. The victim responded back as he continued driving away but he believed the matter was over.
A short while later, however, both groups came face to face in the nearby parking lot located in front of the Navy Federal Credit Union at 1450 Eastlake Pkwy. When the suspects saw the victim and his friends they approached them and reengaged in an intimidating manner. While towering over and pushing against the victim, the primary suspect pulled the victims gold chain from his neck and subsequently fled from the scene with the second suspect in a gray Dodge Challenger packed with several other men.
The primary suspect was described as a Black or Samoan male in his early 30’s, about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds, possibly with hair tied into a small bun. The second suspect was described as a Black or Samoan male in his early 30’s, about 6 feet two inches tall and 270 pounds, with his long hair tied back in a bun.
Fortunately, the victim had his own “dash cam” installed in his vehicle, which captured the incident on video. The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects in this robbery investigation. If you have any additional information on this case or can identify the suspects, please contact Detective Anthony Molina at (619)691-5178 or [email protected].
