Hazardous Weather: High temperatures are forecast to be mainly in the lower and middle 90s through Thursday with increasing humidity.
Afternoon heat index values are forecast to be in the middle and upper 90s today and Wednesday in southeastern Pennsylvania and in central and southern New Jersey. They are expected to reach the 100 to 104 degree range in parts of Delaware and northeastern Maryland.
Afternoon heat index values are forecast to approach 100 degrees on Thursday afternoon in much of southeastern Pennsylvania and central and southern New Jersey. They may rise into the 99 to 104 degree range in the urban corridor from Trenton to Philadelphia and Camden to Wilmington. Those areas may require a Heat Advisory or Excessive Heat Warning. Afternoon heat index values are anticipated to rise into the 102 to 107 degree range in parts of northeastern Maryland and Delaware on Thursday and those area may need a Heat Advisory.
Little relief from the heat is expected at night, with overnight low temperatures forecast to be mainly in the 70s through Thursday.
Temperatures and humidity levels are anticipated to be on the decrease for Friday and for the weekend.
Timing: Through Thursday.
Impacts: The expected heat and humidity may cause heat related health issues, especially among the elderly, the very young and those with pre-existing health conditions. The threat is increased for those living in or near urban centers without the benefit of air conditioning. In addition, heat index values at or above 90 degrees may lead to heat stress for those individuals who work outdoors.
