On 7/11/17, at approximately 05:15 AM, the Chula Vista Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a traffic accident involving a vehicle into a parked semi-truck on Eastlake Parkway (900 Block). Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the vehicle was only occupied by a male adult driver.

The driver was unresponsive and unconscious at the scene. Officers performed CPR as the Chula Vista Fire Department and AMR were responding. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver would succumb to his injuries at the scene.

A witness stated the semi-truck was parked in the bicycle lane against the east curbline of Eastlake Parkway. The driver of a Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound in the #2 lane of Eastlake Parkway. The Hyundai never stopped and collided with the back of trailer.

At the time of the on-scene investigation, the semi-truck was parked illegally in the roadway. It doesn’t appear that alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision.

The Chula Vista Police Traffic Division will be conducting the investigation.
