Wanted Felon Arrested in Motel Massage Ruse
On July 22, 2017, at about 8:39 A.M. the Anderson Police Department responded to a report of a possible vehicle theft. The owner of the vehicle reported to police that he had allowed Mildred Romans, age 40, of Anderson, to borrow his vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Avalon, two days ago. The owner indicated over the last thirty-six hours Romans refused to return the vehicle to him despite his threats of reporting it stolen, and his multiple instructions advising her to return it. The owner then contacted Anderson Police and completed a stolen vehicle report.
The officer who took the stolen vehicle report was familiar with Romans from a prior investigation and knew that she previously advertised her massage services on Craigslist.com. Romans also had an active felony warrant for her arrest for a probation violation, and was on felony probation out of Shasta County for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The officer obtained Romans cell phone number and began texting her in an attempt to have her arrive at a pre-designated place to arrest her. Romans agreed to meet, with whom she thought was a massage client, at a local motel in Anderson. Romans provided the officer prices for her services and the deal was set up. Romans also requested a Mountain Dew soda.
At about 12:15 P.M. Romans arrived at the pre-designated motel, however failed to pull into the parking lot, most likely due to seeing law enforcement vehicles awaiting her arrival. Romans continued driving in the area.
The officers caught up to Romans and a vehicle stop was conducted. Romans was taken into custody without incident.
Romans was placed under arrest for her felony warrants, vehicle theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Romans was not provided the Mountain Dew she requested.
