At 5:38pm Lomita station received a call from a care facility located within the 1900 block of Lomita Boulevard in the city of Lomita. The informant related that active fire was coming from the electrical panel within the facility. Deputies assisted the Los Angeles County Fire Department with extinguishing the flames and evacuation of sixty residents from the facility. Patients were sent home to family, to other care facilities, and to local area hospitals via ambulances. Deputies are anticipated to remain on scene until approximately 2200 hours for traffic control. Damage was estimated at $4,000-$5,000, and there is extensive smoke damage to the facility.
