Mountain Lion Sighting
The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department would like to advise the community of a mountain lion sighting along the west side of the Los Gatos Creek, north of Charter Oaks Circle. A citizen reported the sighting to police who responded to the area and observed a non-distressed mountain lion seated inside a large water drain culvert, positioned along the east embankment of the Los Gatos Creek. After monitoring the area for an hour, the mountain lion was last seen running east inside the culvert pipe which has numerous outlets at various drainage points in the county. The Los Gatos Creek Trail which is already closed to public access due to prior damage (between Charter Oaks Circle and Knowles Dr.), has been cordoned off with barricades and mountain lion sighting advisories. The Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified of the sighting, and will work with the Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department to help ensure the safety of the area. It is recommended that the community stay clear of the area and not access any fenced in rural areas along the creek. Businesses and residences in the immediate area have been advised by police of the sighting. Please stay out of the immediate area, do not access the closed sections of the Los Gatos Creek Trail (north of Charter Oaks Circle), and call 911 if there is an emergency or immediate threat.
Community members are reminded that this general area is in close proximity to mountain lion habitat. Please reference the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife website for advice when encountering mountain lions.
