The Southern Pines Police Department:
Announces 2017 CALEA Reaccreditation
The Southern Pines Police Department has again earned reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) following the department’s initial accreditation in 2011 and subsequent reaccreditation in 2014. The Department was recently recognized and awarded Advanced Accreditation with Excellence at the CALEA National Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
Certification/Reaccreditation status represents a significant professional achievement and is confirmation that the Southern Pines Police Department’s policies and practices are consistent with progressive professional standards. CALEA assessors spent several days evaluating the Department in March 2017, and examined all aspects of the Southern Pines Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. Verification by the assessment team is a part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation, a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. The Southern Pines Police Department was guided in the pursuit of this confirmation of excellence by the Department’s Accreditation Manger Kathy Fernandez. While there are several tiers of accreditation, the Southern Pines Police Department has achieved the highest and most stringent recognition available in the law enforcement profession. The Southern Pines Police Department has achieved the respected status of “Advanced Accreditation with Excellence” following the most stringent assessment review process known as a “Gold Standard Assessment.”
“We are once again pleased to be reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. This certification is validation that the high standards we hold our personnel to is aligned with international guidelines and law enforcement’s best practices. Our continued certification will help to instill even greater public confidence in our agency and further enhance the ability to serve our community,” said Chief Robert Temme.
The CALEA Accreditation award is valid until 2021, and the Department is required to maintain continuous compliance during the award period which is verified annually by CALEA. The Southern Pines Police Department currently is the only accredited law enforcement agency in Moore County, North Carolina.
