U.S. Air Force Veteran gets Needed Services!
The Anderson Police Department would like to extend a huge thank you to the Redding area, Veterans Resource Center, for their dedicated service and quick response to help a local veteran in need!
On August 7th 2017, the Anderson City Manager and Anderson Mayor contacted a reported municipal code violator living in his vehicle, in a pull out area, next to an unoccupied dwelling. After learning the man was a displaced and disabled veteran, the Anderson Police Chief was contacted about the situation. The Chief contacted Shasta County Veterans Affiliated Council President, Vint Stevenson, in Redding, to ascertain what resources were available to assist this man. Stevenson facilitated the connection between APD and the Redding area, Veterans Resource Center of America, and a plan was devised to get the man help.
On August 8th 2017, Program Support Specialist, Michelle Alexander and Jennifer Weitz, from the Veterans Resource Center, met with Anderson Police Sergeant Casey Day and Officer Mike Hallagan. Sgt. Day, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, drove to the man’s location along with Officer Hallagan, Michelle Alexander and Jennifer Weitz. As a result of the contact, the man was found to be living out of a vehicle in less than optimal conditions and with very little resources. An intake process was started for the man in order to get him off the streets and into housing where he belongs.
APD and the Veterans Resource Center are working diligently to see the process through for this man, who unselfishly gave his service to our great nation. For privacy, the veterans name is not being released.
