“MEDICAL EMERGENCY RESULTS IN THREE-PARTY TRAFFIC COLLISION IN NEWTON AREA”
Los Angeles- On August 8, 2017, at approximately 10:25 a.m., Luis Meza, 70 years old and a resident of Pico Rivera, was diving a 1989 Ford van westbound on Slauson Avenue approaching Main Street when he suffered a medical emergency. Meza’s unknown condition caused him to drive against a red light at Main Street and then cross into opposing traffic lanes. His vehicle then collided head-on with a 1999 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck that was stopped eastbound for a red light. The force for collision caused the Chevy pick-up truck to travel in a westbound direction and collide with a 1993 Toyota pick-up truck that was also stopped for the red light.
Meza was given medical treatment at the scene by paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department and then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. Despite the lifesaving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado suffered minor injuries and transported to Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center. He is listed in good condition. The driver of the Toyota pick-up truck complained of minor injuries but did not require transportation to a medical facility.
