Back to School Traffic Safety
The Glendale Police Department is offering safety tips as students return to class on August 16th in the Glendale Unified School District. The beginning of the school year is a time when children are at increased risk of transportation-related injuries from pedestrian, bicycle, school bus, and motor vehicle crashes. The Glendale Police Department is encouraging drivers to be extra alert as we kick off the new school year.
• Allow extra time because of increased traffic around the school.
• Be patient, courteous and safe when dropping off or picking your student up at school.
• Have your child exit the passenger side closest to the sidewalk.
• Be considerate of neighbors around the school and do not block or park in driveways.
• Be on the lookout for school zone signals and ALWAYS obey the speed limit.
• Always stop for school buses that are loading or unloading children.
• Watch out for school crossing guards and obey their signals.
• Never pass other vehicles while driving in a school zone.
• Never change lanes while driving in a school zone.
• Never make U-Turns while driving in a school zone.
• Never text while driving.
