(Etowah County, Alabama) Etowah County Sheriff’s Office investigators are on scene gathering evidence in a shooting that occurred this evening, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

A 9-1-1 call was made at shortly after 7:00 p.m., stating that a male with a gun shot wound was walking near U.S. Highway 431, north of Duck Springs Road. The victim, 23 year-old Dustin Lee Gibbs of Attalla, was flown by helicopter to a Birmingham hospital.

Gibbs was recently arrested on August 17th, and charged with one count of attempted sexual extortion, a felony, and one count of distribution of private images, a misdemeanor. He was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and released on August 18th, on $6,000 bond.

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time. No further details are available. Information will be released as it is confirmed.
