Livermore citizen and social media prove successful in locating a missing 81-year-old female.
On 08/18/17, at 11:33 a.m., the Livermore Police Department responded to Holdener Park to investigate a report of a missing 81-year-old female. The Livermore Police Department activated multiple resources and began searching for the elderly woman. The California Highway Patrol’s Air Unit, the Pleasanton Police Department’s off-road motorcycles, the Alameda County Search and Rescue Unit, LPD’s Motor Unit, and LPD’s volunteers were all called in to assist. The Livermore Police Department also notified the community by posting information about the missing woman on all of our social media platforms.
About 1:00 p.m., a Livermore citizen, who saw our social media post on our Nextdoor site, called LPD and reported seeing the woman described in the post. The woman was located by the citizen on Fourth and Holmes streets. Officers responded to the area. The woman, who was uninjured and not in need of medical attention, was ultimately reunited with her family.
The Livermore Police Department would like to thank the community member who located the missing woman and highlight the effectiveness of the social media platforms to help quickly disseminate information. This is an excellent example of the community and the police department working together in the interest of public safety.
