Updated to add in the early threat in the north for this afternoon and also to increase confidence.
A strong cold front is approaching eastern Kentucky. In advance of this, strong to severe thunderstorms will start to develop across the area this afternoon targeting locations generally north of the Mountain Parkway. Additional storms are expected for the rest of the area later into the evening, some possibly severe. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat from any storms through evening.
Confidence has increased in the potential for severe thunderstorms into the evening.
The threat encompass most of eastern Kentucky though earliest northwest.
The best timing for severe weather will be between 2 and 10 pm.
The main threat will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph.
Minor flooding of low lying areas and hail will be secondary threats.
