Be aware of potentially dangerous weather conditions over the remainder of the week, and through the weekend!
Please pay attention to potentially rapidly changing weather conditions beginning on Friday. The prediction is that Harvey, will be at least a tropical depression, and could be a Hurricane as it enters the Houston Metro region. We are now under a Hurricane Watch.
The primary concern at this point is a significant amount of rain. The rain forecasted amounts in our area are expected in the 7-9 inch range, but there is also concern for double digit rain falls. I have heard numbers as high as 24 inches between Friday and Monday.
South County Fire stands ready to respond to emergencies as they occur. Please help make this weekend less dangerous by not driving through moving water, "turn around, don't drown!" Also, please don't go out and "play" in the water. It's very likely you can be swept away and then require a rescue.
It's also appropriate to make sure you are capable of being self sufficient for up to 72 hours by having food, meds, and water available.
If you have a generator, it is an appropriate time to check it and make sure it is ready for service. Also ensuring you have fuel in your vehicle and some cash on hand is also good planning. Don't forget your pets or other animals you are responsible for. Be ready to move quickly if necessary.
We will keep you appraised of conditions, and our crews will be checking the areas that historically flood as the rains begin. If your area is prone to flooding, discuss now with your family at what water level you will decide to leave your home. Plan now, not as the water is rising around you ankles.
We are in direct communication with the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management as well as our emergency partners in Harris County.
Further messages will be sent as needed to keep you informed.
