UPDATE: #LASD Homicide Death Investigation, 42000 Block of Sierra Highway, Lancaster
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man which occurred on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at approximately 9:05 a.m., on the 42000 Block of North Sierra Highway, Lancaster.
Detectives have learned that an off-duty canine officer for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was traveling northbound on Sierra Highway, approaching Avenue M, when he saw two adult males walking south along the west shoulder. The officer saw the Suspect was a carrying a large piece of splintered wood the approximate size of a baseball bat. The suspect used the piece of wood as a weapon, swinging it and striking the victim, a 49 year-old Hispanic male, in the head. As the Victim fell to the ground, the suspect continued to strike the victim in the upper body with the piece of wood.
The off-duty canine officer immediately stopped his vehicle, detained the suspect, and began to render aid to the victim until the arrival of Lancaster Station Deputies and rescue paramedics.
The Victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect was transported to Lancaster Station where he was booked for murder. The suspect was identified as Daniel Nathan Nosch, a 39 year-old White male, booking #5082993.
The weapon was recovered at the scene.
There is no additional information available at this time, and the investigation is on-going.
