RAILROAD AVENUE ROAD CLOSURE
REMINDER:
RAILROAD AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC STARTING MONDAY AUGUST 28TH. SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION.
Cedar Lane Widening and Roundabout @ Railroad Avenue
Updated info 8/23/17:
The following improvements on Cedar Lane and Railroad Avenue are being funded entirely by Liberty Properties (the developer of the building where Amazon is located on Cedar Lane).
As you may be aware, for nearly two years plans have been in the works for substantial roadway improvements for Cedar Lane and Railroad Avenue. More specifically, a roundabout will be constructed at this intersection to improve traffic movement from all three directions. There will also be roadway widening, a longer left hand turning lane and additional sidewalks constructed as part of this project.
Meeting all of the governmental and utility regulatory requirements for this project delayed the start of this project until now.
Work is anticipated to start on August 28, 2017.
Unfortunately, there is never a good time to perform large projects such as this. Make no mistake, this is a major roadway project and it will be very disruptive until completed. No matter how hard planners and engineers work on plans to maintain the best access scenario, they simply could not meet mandatory traffic and safety design standards for temporary construction projects unless they incorporated lane shifting, road closing and alternating traffic patterns, etc. into the construction plans. This means motorists will be met with many temporary measures designed to keep traffic flowing during construction. Once the project is fully completed later this fall, the intersection will be much better able to accommodate all traffic.
If you travel the area of Cedar Lane at Railroad Avenue or on Delaware Avenue near Railroad Avenue, here is the basic information to help get you through the next two to three months.
- Cedar Lane will remain open for two-way traffic the entire time the project is taking place. There will be some lane shifting and alternating traffic when lanes must be constricted down, but the road will remain open.
- Railroad Avenue will be closed to thru traffic for the majority of the project. Only the five local residents, Ready Pac Produce and the nearby machine shop and knitting mill businesses will be able to access Railroad Avenue during construction. These Railroad Avenue users will have to use Delaware Avenue only for ingress and egress. This is going to put a burden on that intersection and motorists should be mindful when traveling that area.
- To help eliminate any possible view obstructions, parking on the south side of Delaware Avenue will be temporarily prohibited from Railroad Avenue to Poplar Avenue, until construction is completed. Please pay attention to the temporary police no parking signs. These temporary parking restrictions are done for everyone’s safety.
- Please use good judgement and be very careful in this area since slow moving trucks will be entering and exiting Railroad Avenue.
- A message board will be posted near this intersection reminding drivers NOT TO STOP ON THE RR TRACKS.
Weather permitting, the first phase will begin on August 28th. Updates will be put up as often as needed on the municipal website and Facebook page.
