On August 29, 2017, the Downey police Department received information from a victim that their stolen bicycle was being advertised for sale on “Offer-Up.com” by a suspect. Downey Detectives conducted a “Sting operation” and were able to ruse the suspect to a location in City of Downey where he was taken in to custody. The bicycle was returned to a very happy victim.
We caution citizens from purchasing items on such websites due to the potential of purchasing stolen items or being robbed when meeting the alleged buyer or seller at a remote location.
We suggest citizens use the newly installed Public safety meeting area, in the front of the Downey City Library, if you are considering purchasing or selling items via the internet.
