Chula Vista Fire Department Asking All to Beware of Fire Potential This Weekend
The Chula Vista Fire Department is asking all residents and visitors to please be cautious and aware of fire potential this weekend, especially in the City’s canyons and open space areas.
The immediate forecast concern at this time is for weather conditions Friday through Saturday that will generate gusty east winds. The gusty winds in combination with low humidity and very dry vegetation will result in an extreme fire potential. In these conditions, upon ignition, fires will grow very rapidly and will be very difficult to control.
A few helpful reminders to help us all stay safe:
• Please limit yardwork to avoid accidental ignitions.
• Please do not discard cigarettes, matches, and smoking materials from moving vehicles.
• Be certain to completely extinguish cigarettes before disposing of them.
• Avoid lighting fires for barbeques and other activities in windy conditions.
• Please do not litter bottles, cans or any other ignition source in canyons or open space areas.
