Full Notification

On Friday September 1, 2017 at about 2 PM, the Anderson Police Department, with the assistance of Shasta County Probation Department arrested 53 year old Dennis Smithson, previously of Anderson, CA. Smithson had recently moved to Redding.

Anderson Officers began investigating Smithson in January of 2017 when we received a notification from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) that child pornography was being uploaded to a computer in Anderson, CA.

Several search warrants were issued to internet and phone companies in able to locate the correct address and suspect and be able to identify the images. Another search warrant was issued to collect Smithson’s computer for a forensic search.

All of the images found on Smithson’s computer appear to have been ones downloaded from the internet. It did not appear that he took the pictures himself.

An arrest warrant in the amount of one million dollars was issued on September 1, 2017. Anderson Police Officers and Shasta County Probation Officers located Smithson later that day. Smithson was arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail without incident.
