Captain James Conner will be promoted to Chief of Police on November 7th, 2017.
Today, the Sebastopol City Manager Larry McLaughlin announced that Captain James Conner will be promoted to Chief of Police on November 7th, 2017, following Chief Jeff Weaver's retirement on November 6th.
Captain Conner has resided in Sonoma County since he was two years old. Prior to joining the Sebastopol Police Department , Captain Conner served six years in the United States Air Force and worked in an executive position in the finance industry from 1989 to 1996.
Since joining the Sebastopol Police Department in April, 1996, Captain Conner has served as a full-time School Resource Officer, a Field Training Officer, and a Motorcycle Officer. He was promoted through the ranks, serving as a Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain since November, 2013.
Captain Conner has an Associate of Arts degree in Administration of Justice, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement Management, and a Masters of Business Administration. He is a graduate of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training's Command College, and recently completed the California Police Chiefs' Association's Executive Leadership Institute at the Claremont Graduate University's Drucker School of Management.
City Manager McLaughlin said Captain Conner's twenty years of preparation and training with the Sebastopol Police Department have made him eminently qualified to serve as the Department's next Chief of Police.
