PLEASE DO NOT PUMP STORM WATER INTO THE SANITARY SEWER!
PLEASE DO NOT PUMP STORM WATER INTO THE SANITARY SEWER!
The sewer collection system is surcharged and all equipment is operating at full capacity since the passing of IRMA.
If you have a sump pump to remove standing water from your property, direct it to the street! Check your properties to make sure there are no illegal sump pump connections to your sanitary sewer plumbing under your house. If you think you have one or your just not sure call 843-883-5748 and we will be happy to investigate and offer an alternative discharge point that will not tax the sanitary system to the street.
The Town is at risk of Regulatory fines if water overflows a manhole. Once water enters the sewer system it is forever sewer water and must stay in the sanitary sewer collection system until it is properly treated and discharged at our permitted discharge location.
So rain water, storm water, surface water, what ever you choose to call it, must be conveyed to the street or nearby storm water collection system and NOT the sanitary system.
