CAR THEIVES STILL NOT SAFE IN ANDERSON
On 09/16/2017 at approximately 6:45pm an Anderson resident called to report that her vehicle had been stolen. The resident was at her own baby shower at a local church. The resident came out of the church to find her vehicle was missing. The responding Officer was advised that the vehicle may have a tracking device on it that was installed when it was purchased.
The Officer contacted the company and was told that the tracking device was installed on the vehicle and was active. At approximately 11:41pm Shascom was advised by the tracker company that the vehicle was parked in the 1900 block of Westwood Ave. in Redding. Redding Police Officers responded quickly and were in the area within minutes of this information being received. Unfortunately, the vehicle had already left the area towards Happy Valley. The company continued to ping the car and update the APD Officer who was responding that the vehicle was traveling on Happy Valley Rd. and then on Olinda Rd. towards Anderson. The vehicle was intercepted by another APD Officer and two Shasta County Sheriff's Deputies on Olinda Rd. at Erma Rd.
The occupants of the vehicle were detained without incident. One of the occupants was identified as Kyle Daniel Thompson, 19, of Redding. Through interviews it was determined that Thompson had taken the vehicle. Thompson showed some but little remorse when told he had stolen the vehicle from a pregnant woman at her baby shower at a church. Thompson was booked into Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
As Officers were completing the investigation from the above incident, they were advised of another vehicle theft that had just occurred in the 2400 block of Mill St. As an Officer was responding to the victim’s residence, he observed the stolen vehicle turning southbound on E. Center St. from North St. The two APD Officers conducted a stop on the vehicle which yielded to them on E. Center St. at South St. The victim’s daughter, Holly Barfoot, 18, of Anderson, was driving the vehicle and admitted to stealing the car because she was cold. Barfoot was booked into Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The first stolen vehicle was recovered in less than five hours of it being reported and the second vehicle was recovered within 19 minutes of it being reported.
