Beware of Charity Scams - With the devastation of Hurricanes, Earthquakes and Wild Fires; people are in need and others are willing to help, but be cautious. Charity Scams spring up during times of devastation. NEVER click on a link or open an attachment on a social media site or an unsolicited email. Donate to charities that are known to you. Check out charities with the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Guy Alliance, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch or Guide Star.
The Equifax Breach –143 Million consumers may have been compromised. Equifax is not calling potential victims, Do NOT trust caller ID, DO NOT supply any caller representing themselves from Equifax with any of your personal information. Hang up on all Robo-Calls, DO NOT follow prompts to speak to live operator. Hang up! Report any suspected “fake” calls to the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftc.gov. Monitor all account statements for unfamiliar transactions and run your free annual credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228. Place fraud alerts on your credit checks, or place a freeze on your credit report. A fraud alert is free, but may only last for 90 days. A credit/security freeze may cost, but restricts access to your credit report. You must lift a freeze before applying for a new credit card or purchasing a new phone and plan.
