Press Release: Subject arrested for possession of a loaded handgun and controlled dangerous substances

ACCUSED: Jamaal Covin, Age 26, Long Branch, NJ
NARRATIVE:
On September 27, 2017 at approximately 10:40pm, Ptl Miguel Medina was on routine patrol in the Borough of Deal when he observed a vehicle commit a motor vehicle violation on Norwood Ave. Ptl Medina then conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of the Elberon train station. A subsequent investigation revealed the accused to be in possession of a loaded handgun, controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia. The accused was arrested and transported to Deal Police Headquarters for processing.
The accused was subsequently charged with 2 counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of controlled dangerous substances, possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute, 3 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled dangerous substances in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane and unclear plates. In accordance with bail reform guidelines the accused was committed to Monmouth County Jail pending court date.
