Sheriff Kyle Helton has received a call from at least one Giles County Citizen telling him of a scam that they fell victim too. The caller states that there is a computer security issue and they need to purchase a firewall right then. At least one person has sent between $4,000 and $5,000 to these scammers in response to this type of notification. We are unable to get this money back or even proceed very far with an investigation as they are in a foreign country and the money is sent to that country. As always the Sheriff's Office wants everyone to know that if someone calls soliciting goods or services or asking for personal information, computer related inquires, or anything else that involves money to be very suspicious that it may be a scam. Especially, if the person is wanting you to send them money, phone cards, prepaid credit cards and or money grams. These types of transactions are almost always scams and you will lose your money.
