Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews are responding to a 24-inch water main break on Farrington Highway near Pohakunui Avenue. A troubleshooter is on site and a repair crew is en route.
Both east bound lanes of Farrington Highway are closed between Pohakunui Avenue and Kahe Power Plant. West bound lanes are being contraflowed to allow one open lane of traffic in each direction. HPD is on site to assist with traffic flow. The contraflow is expected to remain on effect for the duration of the repair.
Fifteen customers are without water service at this time. A water wagon is en route to provide these customers with an alternate water source.
Additionally, this vital 24-inch water main provides the Leeward Coast with 60% of its water supply. The main will not be in service while crews make repairs. Therefore the BWS is asking all residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha to conserve water. This means using water for essential needs only, such as cooking, drinking, and personal hygiene only.
Work to repair the water main and roadway will continue overnight and into tomorrow. An update will be provided when the situation changes.
