Active Shooter Drill Thursday
(Etowah County, Alabama) An active shooter drill will take place Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Sardis High School.
The exercise will simulate an active shooter inside the high school building only. A full law enforcement response will take place. The drill is a continuation of Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response (ALERRT) training and Run, Hide, Fight training taught by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
The exercise is designed to prepare students, teachers and administrators in the unlikely event of an active shooter on a school campus.
Sheriff Todd Entrekin continues, “We hope no one ever has to use this training but, want everyone to be ready for whatever situation arises.”
The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is asking the media and public to help spread the word about the drill. Parents and community members should not be alarmed when seeing first responders and emergency vehicles at Sardis High School on Thursday, October 5, 2017; it is only a drill.
